VoIP is the primary phone service on campus; analog phones and cellphone service is available to eligible employees.

Cellphone Services

Cellphone service is provided for eligible employees. Reimbursements may also be granted for employee-owned devices used for university-related business. The current cellular service provider is AT&T Mobility. Mobile device management software is required on all university-owned devices. Most university employees are not eligible for university-provided cellular service. See the Cellular Communications policy (306.1) for more information.

Phones for Departments, Faculty, and Staff

Campus phone services are provided with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). VoIP is a digital communication solution that can be used with physical office VoIP devices or on mobile devices from anywhere with an internet connection. Make and receive campus phone calls using the Microsoft Teams app or your VoIP desk phone. Additional VoIP services are available for departmental phone numbers, including auto-attendant call trees.

Analog Phones

IT Services provides support for analog phones using the legacy AT&T landline service.

Checking and Updating Your Emergency Response Location (ERL)

Your Emergency Response Location (ERL) is your primary location on campus. A physical VoIP desk phone wired to a network port on campus consistently remains in one location, so it is the best option for calling 911. Your location is automatically available to the dispatch operator as the Emergency Response Location (ERL) information will be sent.

Getting Started with Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a collaboration tool as well as the default app for meetings and making and receiving phone calls. Teams is available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.

Wiping Device Data from a Phone or Mobile Device

If your phone or other mobile device has been replaced or is lost, stolen, or otherwise compromised, you can protect your identity by remotely wiping sensitive UARK data (Outlook email, calendar, contacts and file data) from the device using Outlook on the web.

VoIP 911 Policy

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) users on campus should be aware that emergency calls placed to 911 will report location based on Emergency Response Location (ERL) information. Maintaining accurate location information is vital to ensure first responders can quickly find the correct location of a call during an emergency.
