New Account Setup

The university creates a UARK account for new students and new employees and sets up MFA using your personal email address and phone number from the application.

Before getting started, make sure you have:

  • The personal email address and phone number used to apply as a student or employee.
  • Access to the phone with that same phone number for setting up multi-factor authentication.
  • Your UARK email address, found in the New Student Center for students, or provided to employees by their supervisor in Workday.

Set Your Password

  1. Go to passwordreset.microsoftonline.com.
  2. Note: You may need to open an incognito window or private browser if you have a personal Microsoft account already logged in.
  • Enter your UARK email address and fill in the Captcha.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  • Select “I forgot my password.” You will receive a Multi-factor Authorization (MFA) code to the personal email address or phone number you provided in your admissions or employment application.
  • Enter the MFA code sent to you to authenticate.
  • Create a password. If you get an error message, click the Back button on your browser and try a more unique password.
Note: Passwords must be 14+ characters, including at least one uppercase and lowercase letter, number and special character. Read more about creating safe passwords.
  • Make note of your password once it has been created. Your account is now activated! Continue to step 2 below to fully access the university’s online services.

Set up Microsoft Authenticator App

The recommended form of MFA is the Microsoft Authenticator app, available on all mobile platforms. MFA is required to access online services offered by the university, such as email, Blackboard, UAConnect or campus Wi-Fi networks.
1. Go to outlook.uark.edu on a computer. Have your phone handy.
2. Log in with your @uark.edu email address and the password you just created.
Note: If you forgot your password, visit passwordreset.microsoftonline.com or contact the IT Help Desk for a password reset.
3. You will be asked to provide more information. Click Next.
4. You will be prompted to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app. This is the recommended form of MFA.
5. Download and open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
Note: If you are unable to install the app, click "I want to set up a different method" and select the text/call method.
HEADS UP! You are required to allow notifications and grant access to the device camera. If you skip these steps or answer “Don't Allow,” the setup process cannot be completed.
6. From the Authenticator app, tap "Add Account." Select “Work or school account.”
7. Enter your UARK account information.
8. On your computer, a QR code will appear. Point your phone camera at your computer screen where the code is displayed. The code will be scanned automatically.
