Audience: all UARK account holders
Overview
New University of Arkansas students, employees, and affiliates must set up Microsoft Authenticator on a mobile device.
Microsoft Authenticator connects your mobile device to your UARK account and is used to create a multifactor authentication (MFA).
Setting up a passkey? UARK accounts must use the Microsoft Authenticator app for creating a Passkey. If you currently use a different authenticator app, complete these steps first.
If Microsoft Authenticator is already connected to your UARK account,
do not set it up again. Continue to

Before you start
To set up Microsoft Authenticator, you will need:
- Your UARK account username and password set up already. IMPORTANT: If you have not set your UARK account password, first set your UARK account password.
- Your mobile device.
- The ability to install Microsoft Authenticator and allow the app to use notifications and your mobile device.
Steps

Download and Install the Microsoft Authenticator application

Open Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device. When prompted, allow notifications and camera access.
These permissions are required to complete setup.

Accept the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

(Optional) Check the box Help improve the app by sharing your app usage data. Select Continue.

Select Turn off battery optimization. You may receive a pop-up notification to Stop optimizing battery usage. Select Allow.

On the screen Let's secure your account, you will be prompted to create a Passkey, Passwordless sign-in request, Multifactor authentication, or one-time password code sign-in. Select Continue.
IMPORTANT: If you device is not compatible with Passkey you will be asked to update your devices system. If your device cannot update to a compatible OS version, you may opt to use a Yubikey for an authentication method. Faculty or staff who are unable to use a passkey may request a YubiKey to use as their Passkey method.

Select Add work or school account.

Select Sign in and enter your UARK account information.

Select Continue and complete set up.

On your device, tap the account and verify in the full-screen view that your account is correct. Alternatively, go to account.uark.edu > Select My Account > Select Security Info and confirm your Microsoft Authenticator and Passkey options are listed in the Security info table (see screenshot).

IMPORTANT: For the full duration of using your UARK account for work or study, you must keep the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your mobile device.

After setting up Microsoft Authenticator app, please continue by enrolling in the Passkey security group. Follow these directions for how to Enroll in the Passkey security group.
Faculty or staff who are unable to use a passkey may request a YubiKey as their MFA method.
