IT Services and University Standard Terminology

When creating documentation, use the standard terms for IT services assets and functions. General university campus terms are included here.

affiliate Although "university affiliate" would technically define any employee or student at the university, the term has developed a more specific definition and should only be used in documentation to refer to individuals who are not employed by the university or enrolled as a student, but have been granted an affiliate UARK account for use during the time that they have a legitimate need to access university resources.

ID ID can refer to a student or employee ID number or card, but should not be used to refer to their UARK username
reset password vs. change password Users can "change" their passwords; a forgotten password can be "reset" by an IT Services technician.
residence hall use instead of "dorm"
single sign-on (SSO) should be written as lowercase
username use instead of ID or other terms.
