Use the Report Message button in Outlook to report junk and phishing messages. Reporting these emails helps the university protect your data and teaches the Microsoft filters to catch spam and suspicious email before it arrives in your inbox.
The Report Message button is included with Outlook on the web, Outlook for iOS and Android, and compatible versions of the Outlook desktop email client. Junk includes spam messages that advertise unwanted products. When reported, these will be sent to your Junk Email folder, and the sender will be added to the Blocked Senders List. Phishing messages are an attempt to get you to click on a suspicious link or disclose login information or other personal data. These will be moved to your Deleted Items folder and reported to the university's IT Security team. Learn more about how to detect phishing.
To report a message:
- Select the suspicious or junk message, and click the Report Message button in Outlook.
- Select Phishing to ensure the suspicious email is reported to the university's IT Security team and deleted properly. Select Junk if it is unwanted spam.
Note: If you are using Outlook on the web, click the ". . ." icon to the right of the Forward button to find the Report Message options. You can also right-click an email to see Report Message options in the menu.

Not Junk?
The Not Junk options is for messages that came from a trusted source and were filtered to your Junk Email folder by mistake. If you find an email in your Junk Email folder that is not spam, use the Report Message option "Not Junk" to mark it as a legitimate email, move the message to your Inbox, add the sender to the Safe Senders List, and report the false positive to help IT Services improve spam filters.
