Overview
All University of Arkansas faculty and staff can request project management services from the IT Project Management team. There is an intake process to ensure that the request meets the project management criteria set for IT Services. Once the request meets a minimum of three project criteria, it then becomes a project. This article covers the IT Project Management Office criteria list.
Criteria
An IT PMO Project is a project that has an information technology (IT) component. IT components are information technology products and services, including hardware, software, and applications using the university infrastructure and their supporting staff, that are a component of a larger project. A hardware or software purchase alone would not constitute a project.
In addition to having an IT component, a project that is requested to be an IT PMO Project must meet at least three of the defining criteria to become a project with the IT PMO. Requests with an IT component that do not meet any of the criteria should be submitted as a request for service or support.
- Project has enterprise impact (cross-functional, campuswide, or multi-departmental impact inside and outside of IT Services).
- Project may require collaboration with IT Services resources, have a dependency on another project, or require services or products from a third party.
- Project requires IT Services resource effort of 60-100 hours cumulative or more and an active project duration of 1-2 months or more.
- Project may require an application integration with an enterprise offering.
- Project is highly visibility, has a high impact on the requesting unit, or has senior leadership sponsorship.
- Project is highly complex with multiple teams, departments, or stakeholders involved.
- Project requires change management coordination including communication. Requires cross-functional coordination and training.
- Project requires structured quality assurance and testing before implementation of a solution.
