Knowledge Base: How to create a category

Overview

Audience: TeamDynamix Technicians with Knowledge Base management access (Technician II)

TeamDynamix knowledge base articles and services are organized into categories and subcategories. Use these directions when creating, editing, or selecting a category so content remains organized consistently and users can find related information more easily.

Tip: TeamDynamix categories are based on the EDUCAUSE Higher Education IT Service Catalog Model.

Before you start

  • Search existing categories and subcategories to make sure an appropriate category does not already exist.
  • Review the EDUCAUSE category structure before creating a new category.
  • Plan subcategories carefully. Categories can be renamed or repurposed, but deleting a category requires a TeamDynamix Administrator request.

Steps

  1. Visit help.uark.edu. Sign in, if prompted
  2. Select Knowledge Base from the top main navigation
  3. Browse and Select the appropriate category placement (For example, this article is under the following subcategory: Knowledge Base / Administrative and Business / TeamDynamix / TeamDynamix Technicians / Knowledge Base)
  4. Within your parent category, select New Category
  5. Input Name.  IMPORTANT: The category name has a significant weight when using the Search feature. Please consider a searchable name for new categories.
  6. If a sub-category was selected, the Parent Category will automatically be filled.
  7. In the Order field, you can do three things:
    • Keep the default number. TeamDynamix automatically assigns the next available order number. This will result with the new category being listed last.
    • Set to 1. If every category is set to 1, then they will all be in alphabetical order.
    • Set to a specific number. TeamDynamix automatically displays the categories by order number from lowest to highest. If multiple categories have the same Order number, those will be listed alphabetically together.
  8. Input Description
  9. Select the Change Icon button and select an appropriate icon for your new category.
  10. Please keep the Icon Color field empty to help ensure the category icon remains digitally accessible.
  11. Select Save

What's next

Once saved, the category is available for use and the Permissions and Shortcut settings may be altered. Please review those knowledge base articles for more details.
