The Technology Lifecycle Exception Request service allows university employees and CCBATS members to request continued use of university-owned technology devices that have reached end-of-life (EOL) but must remain in service for operational or research needs. This process documents the exception, evaluates associated risks, and ensures asset tracking and lifecycle management remain accurate.
Before You Submit
Employees responsible for university-owned technology assets, or CCBATS members acting on behalf of their unit, may submit a request when a device has reached end-of-life but must remain in use.
EOL criteria typically include:
- Windows or Android devices approximately 5 years or older
- Apple devices approximately 7 years or older
- Devices that are no longer supported, patched, or secured by the manufacturer
Before submitting the request, gather the device information required by the form.
Device information required on the request form:
- Asset Tag Number
- AST Number (if available)
- Serial Number
- Manufacturer and Model
- Room Location
- Current Device Condition
- Device registration information
How the Process Works
- Submit the Technology Lifecycle Exception Request form with the required device information and justification.
- IT Asset Management (ITAM) reviews the request to verify device details and confirm lifecycle status.
- The request justification and any associated risks are evaluated to determine whether continued use of the device is appropriate.
- Approved exceptions are recorded to maintain accurate asset tracking, risk awareness, and lifecycle compliance.
