LinkedIn Learning: My Career Plan

Audience: Students, Faculty, Staff

Responsible Group: IT Training and Outreach

Overview

My Career Plan is a feature in LinkedIn Learning that allows you to identify a single career goal, whether that's in your current role or a role you'd like to explore, and creates a personalized learning plan for that goal. The learning plan is an AI-curated list of courses and content that aligns with the career goal you've identified. Some benefits of using My Career Plan to set a goal are:

  • Clarifies your career direction: Setting a career goal helps define the skills and roles you want to pursue, creating a clear roadmap for growth.
  • Generates a personalized learning plan: LinkedIn Learning uses your goal to recommend courses, Learning Paths, and resources tailored to your desired role or skill set.
  • Keeps development focused and measurable: Aligning learning activities with a career goal ensures progress is relevant and trackable, making it easier to stay motivated and achieve milestones.
Note: A huge benefit to using the My Career Plan tool is that it is AI-powered based on data from LinkedIn economic graph. This data is a collection of all of its user shared data from the whole LinkedIn platform. Data is real time up to date information.

Before you start

You will only be allowed to set one career goal at a time in LinkedIn Learning.

Ensure you have access to LinkedIn Learning, either in the browser or on the mobile app. Log in using your UARK account. If you do not have access to LinkedIn Learning please contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.

How to start My Career Plan

  1. On desktop, click the menu button in the top-left corner (☰).
  2. Select My Career Plan. This will open the My Career Plan tool.
  3. There are three options to continue (screenshot below):
    1. Select Get Started from the top of the screen. This option is good for beginners and it also allows you to first update your current role in LinkedIn Learning.
    2. Select the I want to... text box and type in your career goal using natural language. This option is good if you know exactly what goals you have.
    3. Use any of the AI-generated prompts based on your current role. This option is good for exploring.
  4. Whichever option is chosen, based on results, LinkedIn will generate a preview of your personalized Learning Plan. It identifies skills that will be addressed in your content, along with learning objectives.
  5. If you agree to the Learning Plan, select Get started with this plan. If you want to explore another goal, select Try a different goal.
  6. When your Learning Plan is confirmed, the Goal will be updated on your My Career Plan and will show the Plan Progress. NOTE: The Goal can be edited or removed by clicking the pencil icon ()next to your Goal.

What's next

Once the Learning Plan is confirmed, the My Career Plan page will populate with modules categorized by topics and each module will have courses. As you complete each video lesson and course, your Plan Progress will update. To begin learning, select Start Learning to open the first course in your plan.

Tip: Use the weekly time goal to stay on track with meeting your career goal.

Keep your plan current. You can update your career Goal or Learning Plan at any time. You can add or remove modules or courses as needed. The screenshot below shows where to click to add or remove either modules or courses within the modules and to set a different Goal. Specific directions are in a related article, LinkedIn Learning: Learning Plan.

Set a weekly or monthly time commitment to stay on track, and strengthen retention by sharing what you learn with others. Keep a record of your training for annual performance reviews. These habits take intention, but they will support your growth and long-term career success.
