Overview
On July 10, 2025, the National Science Foundation published the following updates to its Research Security Policies, effective October 10, 2025: “In accordance with Section 10634 of the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 (42 U.S.C. § 19234), each individual identified as a senior/key person must certify that they have completed the requisite research security training that meets the requirements specified in Item 2 of Important Notice No. 149 within 12 months prior to proposal submission.”
The University of Arkansas has provided the compliant, compressed course training module through CITI Program. Please follow the steps below to complete the training, which should take approximately 60 minutes to complete.
Logging into CITI Program
- Using your browser (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Safari, or Firefox), navigate to the CITI Program home page.
- on the blue “Log In” button in the upper right of the home page.
- Under the CITI Program logo, click the blue "Log In Through My Organization" tab.
- "University of Arkansas Fayetteville" in the box, and click "Continue To SSO Login/Instructions", and log in with your U of A credentials
- If you have not made an account already, complete the required fields:
- “First Name”
- “Last Name”
- “Security Question”
- “Security Answer”
- “Your preferred email address” (please use your “uark.edu” account)
- “Please verify your preferred email address”
Steps
- At the bottom of the page under the “Learner Tools for University of Arkansas Fayetteville” section, click the blue “Add a Course” link.
- Scroll down to Question 11, “Research Security” (without selecting any other Questions).
- Check the box “Research Security Training (Combined)”.
- Scroll to the bottom and click the blue “Submit” button. The course should now appear for you to click on to start.
- Under “Courses Ready to Begin”, click the blue “Start Now” button to begin the course. This course will take approximately 60 minutes to complete.
- Read the Assurance Statement, and check the box that says, “I AGREE to the above, the Terms of Service, and the Privacy and Cookie Policy, in order to access CITI Program materials.” Check “Submit”.
- Under “Required Modules”, click “Start”.
- Click “View Module” if the module doesn’t automatically play.
- Once finished with viewing the module, click “Take the Quiz”.
- Once you finish the course and pass the quiz, a completion page will appear.
Tip: You can click “Access Your Completion Records” to view the course completion.
Viewing your CITI course completions
- On the main member page under “Completed Courses”, view your full record of past completions by clicking on the “Records” link.
- Under the “Research Security Training (Combined)” course, click “View-Print-Share” to view your completion certificate.
- Under “Completion Certificate”, click “View / Print”.
