Electronic message, information sharing, productivity, and integrated collaboration suites used to facilitate interactions between individuals and work groups as they create, share, and exchange information. Includes services such as email, calendaring, productivity suites, file sharing, instant messaging tools, and web-based collaborative platforms used strictly for collaboration.
OneDrive for Business (based on SharePoint) is an Office 365 file management service available to all students, faculty and staff.
Service considerations
Below is a list of file management services and when to use each.
OneDrive for Business
- Files that will not be shared (e.g. documents that no one else needs to see, draft documents or personal expense reports).
- Files that will be shared with limited scope (e.g. articles or documents you want to informally review).
- Basic versioning is sufficient.
Microsoft Teams or SharePoint Online
- Files that will be shared with team members (e.g. team or project documents, formal collaborations with others).
- Workflows are needed to assign list items or documents to others to take action on or to collect feedback.
- You want to create custom permission levels for confidential information.
- App and service integration (e.g. line-of-business applications, Power Apps, Power Automate or Power BI).
- Advanced versioning is required.
OneDrive Personal (subscriptions unaffiliated with the University)
- Files that are exclusively personal files (e.g. family photos or recipes).
- Files will be shared with family, acquaintances and others who do not work at the University.
To get started with OneDrive for Business, log in with your UARK email address and password, then click the OneDrive tile.
Box is an online cloud storage and collaboration tool available to all students, faculty, and staff, and access can be granted to university affiliates.
Services include:
- requesting access to Box, including organizational Box requests
- resolving issues accessing Box
- retrieving files
- Box incident investigation

Students, faculty and staff can use SharePoint Online to manage projects, build collaboration portals, post and manage files and documents, share calendars, and access online forums and shared resources.
Using Microsoft Teams or Groups? Teams and Office 365 Groups automatically use SharePoint to store and share files. In Microsoft Teams, access SharePoint from the Files tab. For Office 365 Groups, open the group in Outlook Online, click the ellipses under the group name, then click Site.
