Setting up Mobile Device Management (MDM) on a University Device

Mobile device management is a service that ensures the security of university data stored and accessed on university-owned devices like laptops, desktops, smartphones and tablets. All university-owned devices are required to enroll in MDM using the Intune Company Portal application.

Mobile device management is a service that ensures the security of university data stored and accessed on university-owned devices like laptops, desktops, smartphones and tablets. All university-owned devices are required to enroll in MDM using the Intune Company Portal application. Laptop and desktop computers are set up by your local IT administrator.

iOS Setup: Install Company Portal

Set up the Intune Company Portal app to enroll a university-owned iPhone or iPad into MDM. This app is compatible with devices running iOS 11.0 and later.

  1. Download and install the Intune Company Portal app from the App Store. 
  2. Open the Company Portal app. Tap Sign In. Enter your UARK email address and your UARK password. 
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts and allow permissions when prompted.
  4. Wait while the app finishes setting up your device.
  5. On the "Choose the best category for this device" screen,  select your department or appropriate group provided by your local IT administrator. Tap Done.

  6. Tap Done to complete the setup.

Android Setup: Install Company Portal

Set up the Intune Company Portal app to enroll a university-owned Android smartphone or tablet into MDM.

  1. Download and install the Intune Company Portal app from the Google Play Store. 
  2. Open the Company Portal app. Tap Sign In. Enter your UARK email address and your UARK password. 
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts.
  4. On the What's next screen, tap Next. Tap Allow for each permission that pops up. 
  5. Review the list of actions the Company Portal can perform. Tap Activate.
    Note: If you are on a Samsung device, you will be required to agree to the Knox license activation.
  6. Wait while the app finishes setting up your device.
  7. On the "Choose the best category for this device" screen,  select your department or appropriate group provided by your local IT administrator. Tap Done.

  8. Tap Done to complete the setup. 

Privacy

The university cannot see the following data on your device: Call and web history, location, email and text messages, contacts, passwords, calendar, camera roll

The university can see the following data on your device: Model, serial number, operating system, app names, owner, device name, manufacturer, phone number
