Microsoft’s Power Platform provides tools for data analysis, reporting, workflow automation, and low-code application development. The Power Platform includes Power BI Pro, Power BI Premium, Power Automate, and Power Apps Premium.

These Microsoft applications are not included with Office 365.

IT Services does not provide support for the software beyond ensuring the appropriate license is purchased and provisioned.

Microsoft Power BI Pro

Power BI Pro is used for data analysis, reporting, and visualization and allows users to create, publish, and share interactive reports and dashboards with other Pro users and collaborate in workspaces. Everyone who views shared content must also have Power BI Pro, unless Premium capacity is used.

Power BI Pro is included with the Microsoft A5 Faculty license but is not included with the Microsoft A5 Student license. It is available to faculty and staff and can be accessed from the Apps dashboardPower BI Pro is a per‑user license that enables sharing and collaboration within the online Power BI service. Power BI Pro is not a desktop application, but a license that allows you to share and collaborate on Power BI reports within the online Power BI service. Power BI Desktop is the desktop application for creating and developing Power BI reports, and it can be downloaded and used for free by anyone, regardless of license.

Access: Faculty and staff can access from the Apps dashboard.
Use the Request Microsoft Desktop Software request button on the right if you do not have Power BI on your Apps dashboard.

Microsoft Power BI Premium

Power BI Premium is required only for large‑scale or enterprise reporting scenarios, such as sharing reports broadly without requiring viewers to have a Pro license, supporting very large datasets, or ensuring dedicated performance. Most users and teams do not need Power BI Premium.

Power Automate

Power Automate is used for process automation and reducing repetitive administrative work by building automated workflows between applications, systems, and services and replacing manual processes.

Cost: Plan for faculty/staff is $95/year per user

Power Apps Premium

Power Apps Premium enables users to quickly build custom applications using advanced data sources to run on web or mobile devices.

Cost: Plan for faculty/staff is $201.60
