Finding a computer's device name

A device name is a unique identifier for a computer or other device on a network. 

Windows

To find the device name on a Windows computer:

1. Open Settings by clicking in the Search box on the taskbar, typing "Settings", and clicking Settings on the left (or Press Windows+i).
2. Click System on the left.
3. Scroll down, and select About. 
   The device name will be displayed to the left of the "Rename this PC" button. 

Mac

To find the device name on a Mac computer:

1. Select System Settings in the Apple menu.
2. Scroll down if necessary, and click General in the sidebar.
3. Click About.
   View your computer’s name to the right of the Name field.
